Happy New Year!

Every time it's New Year's Eve, I always wonder "where did the year go?!?" This year has been no exception and it's been filled with lots of changes! I'm finally getting settled into my life until the next round of changes comes at me. Change is inevitable but here's a few highlights of 2009:

February/March: Moving to The Fan and living life in the city on my own - no parents, roommates, or cats. Just me, myself, and I in my giant walk in-closet.
May: Switched up my career again and transitioned into becoming a "shoe dawg." Such a high energy division - a lot of fun but it took a major mental/physical toll onto my body.
October: After 6 months of living a life in shoes, I was promoted to business manager and I've acquirred an insiders perspective of the cosmetics/beauty industry.

I've now survived a successful retail holiday season, "kicked some tail and took some names," and realizing that I hold the key to my success. Roll with the punches even if you get knocked off your feet a few times, get back up and keep going! Life's too short to let a bad day get to you.

Since tonight is the infamous New Year's Eve and I have a fab party to
attend, I needed a fab new dress. On a shopping excursion with my
mother, I found this New York & Company dress on the clearance rack. Of course I tried it on because I love anything black and it fitted me like a dream. I normally tend to have issues with shift dresses - if it fits my bustline, it's usually too big in the hips since I'm more of an hourglass shape. Thus, if the dress fits and you have Christmas money to spend - BUY THE DRESS.

So to go with said dress, I'm pairing a purple cardigan from Nordstrom and purple snakeskin peep toe pumps that I bought from Target last year. I had my eye on these cute Mary Jane style leopard pumps from Payless but I decided to not make a dent in my wallet and to wear shoes that already have a happy home in my closet.

Blogging On The Run: Stepping Out Of The Shoe Box

I am attending a "hot shoes" party tonight. I was originally planning to wear my black Jessica Simpson d'Orsay pumps but I wanted something a little more fun. On a whim, I stopped by Kohl's on my way back to town from Chester. I stumbled upon these royal blue patent shoes (I apologize for the color depiction not being 100% accurate - crappy store lighting). They wouldn't necessarily be shoes I'd instantly be drawn to but after trying them on and getting compliments from the other ladies shopping, I was SOLD! $15 and some change later, these babies are all mine. I kind of feel like Carrie Bradshaw in them but that's a good thing, right?

EDIT: If you'd like a pair of your own - Kohl's has black and grey in stock as well as yellow or white. The blue must be popular because it's not available online anymore!

Oh, I love shopping in NoVA...

Today I was at Tyson's Corner for a training seminar, so of course my coworkers and I had to take a quick detour on the way home to Potomac Mills. Browsed at the Rack for a bit, picked up a pair black leather Reef flip-flops and a handful (ok, five pairs) of the Hanky Panky low-rise thongs in some cute color combos.

I tried to be persuasive and convince everyone that we should stop by Steve & Barry's as well because I wanted to check out the Bitten line by Sarah Jessica Parker. Unfortunately, that idea didn't work. I am thinking to instead drive up to northern Virginia on Saturday and make a day of shopping and scoping out what's going to be hot for spring since now is the time that the spring goodies start rolling in...

Sephora is my anti-drug.

Today I did a bit of retail therapy at Sephora. I swear that I could spend hours in that place! I decided to splurge on a new concealer and I picked out the Vincent Longo Concealer/Illumina Pencil - Light #1. Since good brushes are an investment to any makeup collection, I picked up Sephora Brand Professional Platinum Bronzer Brush #48 to mainly use with my loose face powders. I can see a lot of potential uses with this brush in addition to applying and buffing in my face powder: M.A.C. Mineralized Skin Finishes, M.A.C. Pigments (as blushes and to contour), bronzer, etc. I do own two of the mini M.A.C. kabuki brushes that came out with the Pearlizer sets last summer and they're great for detail work especially for creating cheekbones but sometimes I want a bigger brush (but not too big of a brush).

I also picked up a couple goodies at The Body Shop but I'll post about those tomorrow!

In other news, I went into Forever21 and one of the sales associates was so rude and had this "I don't want to be here" aura about her. I would have bought something there but I had a hard time finding my size so I think I'll shop off their website instead. If I go into a store and I see a sales associate with arms crossed, I am inclined to take a quick look at the merchandise and to walk back out. I guess after working in retail all these years, I like friendly and approachable salespeople. If your body language tells me to go away, I'm not buying anything!

Just a heads up, South Moon Under is having a fabulous sale! I originally tried on this Frenzii wrap cardigan in green but their store manager was nice enough to track a black one down from another store (sorry, y'all - I HAVE THE LAST BLACK ONE). You can still buy the cardigan in green or mango on South Moon Under's website though. Be sure to check out the rest of the sale goodies!

On Wednesday I found these fab Kenneth Cole Reaction heels at Ross for just under $20.00! They're perfect "going out" shoes and the rubber sole makes them fairly comfortable. I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday. :-)

Bargainista Babe: New Years Eve

Hello all! Massive apologies for the lack there of posting... Finals kicked my butt but I managed to survive with a B in Survey of Economics and a C in Marketing Management. I'm on "winter break" from my county job so I am working full-time for my always fabulous retail gig for some extra cash. Classes start back up again January 7th and hopefully taking Business Leadership as well as Spreadsheet Software (Excel) won't be too taxing!

Earlier this week on Wednesday, I managed to record my Bargainista Babe spot for Q94's Melissa and Sid which aired on Thursday morning. I haven't heard the official end result myself but I talked to a few who caught it on air and said it was really good.

So here's a re-cap of what I featured!

You always want to look fabulous on New Years Eve and a classic little black dress (L.B.D.) is always a good choice. My two picks are by Old Navy and AB Studio at Kohl's. Both dresses feature empire waists which are great if you enjoyed a bit more than your fair share of cookies, fudge and other holiday delights. The AB Studio dress is good for covering up any "arm jiggle" but still shows a bit of tasteful cleavage (sounds like an oxymoron but trust me on this one).

A great dress always needs a great pair of shoes to go with it! I've liked some of the shoes for the Hollywould line at Target, these red shoes are too cute and will add a nice pop of color to your outfit. Check out the matching clutch too!

I'm still a Payless girl at heart so check out their massive collection of cute party shoes. Ladies, remember that you do need a bit of a heel when wearing empire waist dresses so you don't look frumpy and make sure to wear your heels around the house a bit to break them in before New Year's Eve!

If you decide to stick with a black or metallic shoe, why not add some color with some fun footless or patterned tights in a bright color! Target always has a great selection of fun hosiery but also check out DOTS, Ross, T.J. Maxx, and K&G Fashion Superstore as well. You never know what you might find! DOTS also has a good selection of cute metallic and sequined clutches so if you want to go the metallic route for a handbag, check them out!

For jewelry I'd suggest a pair of dangly earrings and a cute bangle. Target has a cute jewelry selection including their Marvella line. A fun pair of earrings will work for New Year's Eve as well as any fancy event or to dress up a simple outfit.

I've succumbed to the dark side and bought a pair of Uggs. I don't feel that they're the least bit fashionable but at least they're comfortable. I bought them for comfort and warmth because I find no asthetic value in them. I know a ton of people who are "Ugg-crazed" but I'm not...

I've been on the lookout for the quintessential flat boot to wear with skinny jeans tucked in or to pair with a cute dress and a jacket or cardigan. I already own a pair of Anne Taylor Loft kitten heeled pointed toe black suede boots, black cowboy boots, and my beloved caramel brown Target boots.

My definition of quintessential also includes the terms cute, comfortable, and preferably under $50. I found this pair of grey suede flat boots by White Mountain at South Moon Under that met all those criteria. The height of the shaft is great because it's proportionate to my frame. I just need to buy a can of Scotchguard and spray them down since they're suede and I don't want to mess them up.

Aren't they cute?
